Fitness Conditioning at STC

Whether you are playing tennis to get out and socialize with friends, compete at your highest level, or do a mixture of both, improving your fitness level is critical. Having a baseline of strength and cardiovascular endurance will help you feel better, play better and prevent injuries.

With this in mind, STC is very happy to offer new fitness classes designed specifically for tennis players. These fitness classes are designed and instructed by Jenn Hanson, Owner and Director of Wholly Fit and her team.

Jenn lives in Saanich and brings a wealth of tennis experience. She played tennis as a junior at the national level, and went on to play tennis at the University of Montana on a full scholarship. She has taught tennis, trained players of all levels, and is excited to be partnering with STC to better the conditioning of our player and to give back to a sport she loves. About the Classes

Wholly Fit classes are designed for all fitness levels from beginners and injured players to elite athletes. Classes are 60 minutes in duration and will include:

  • A 10-minute warm up
  • 40 minute conditioning program focusing on:
    • Aerobic Capacity and Anaerobic Training
    • Basic Strength Training
    • Balance and Agility Training
    • Core Training
  • A 10 minute stretch and cool-down period

Based on the participants, Jenn can also teach Baby Boomer Boot Camps (specific to age group), High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Classes, Strength and Stretch Classes (which would appeal to those wanting a more relaxed workout) and Beginners Conditioning Classes (which focuses entirely on form and building strength at the beginner level).

Where: Brydon Park (behind Saanich Tennis Club). Note that some classes may have on-court training at STC based on the availability of the tennis courts and the specific planned activities.

Number of Participants per Class: min 10, max 18

Cost:

  • $100 for 8 classes (i.e. 8 weeks: $12.50 per class) for STC members
  • $120 for non-STC members (STC members are prioritized up to 7 days before the first scheduled class)

How do I join?

  • An online registration form will be provided.
  • A Wholly Fit waiver and goal setting form will be completed before your first tennis fitness class to better tailor the class to the needs of the participants

FAQ:

  1. What if I’m injured, sick or on vacation for one of the sessions?
  • Tennis fitness classes are pre-paid in 8-week blocks and are not refundable
  • If space is available, you may make up the missed class in a different fitness class (i.e. on a different day of the week)
  1. What if the weather or other unforeseen event cancels the session for the whole group?
  • Tennis fitness classes will run “rain or shine”! The class will, however, be adjusted appropriately based on current weather conditions. Should an unlikely event cause a class cancelation, the class will be rescheduled for the same day and time in the week following the planned class completion date.
  1. How many tennis fitness classes are recommended by the fitness instructor?
  • Participants will benefit from one class per week but, depending on the participant’s goals and current conditioning, more classes per week may be beneficial. Jenn will be happy to provide you with a recommendation specific to your conditioning goals.
  1. What if I’d like to join the fitness classes but the dates and times do not work for me?
  • Please email fitness@saanichtennisclub.org with a request for a fitness class at a different time of day. If there’s enough interest to support an additional / different class, we will try to make the requested change.
