Group Level Descriptions:

Group A, level 3.0-3.5 players:

These sessions are geared towards players who have an intermediate amount of playing experience (3+ years), and are interested in beginning to play tournaments and/or 3.5 Doubles League.

Lessons will be tailored to the group’s learning needs but will mainly focus on improving technical fundamentals and learning the basic tactics of both singles and doubles.

Group B, level 3.5-4.0 players:

These sessions are geared towards advanced (4+ years competitive experience) level players who play tournaments and/or matches at the 3.5-4.0 level (eg. SITL Doubles League or STC Singles Ladder).

The focus will be on improving consistency and depth for all strokes, tactics for singles and doubles, and learning the use of different spins.

Group C, level 4.0-5.0 players:

These sessions are geared towards advanced (+5 years competitive experience) level players who have extensive tournament and/or match experience at the 4.0+ level.

The focus will be on improving power and spin when rallying, advanced tactics for singles and doubles, and multi-shot patterns.

Skill Level Evaluation:

To the greatest extent possible we try to structure the various groups so that each class is composed of participants who are of a fairly similar ability level as this enhances the enjoyment and learning opportunities for everyone. If you are unsure which group is best suited for you, please reach out before the session starts if at all possible. We would be happy to help provide guidance.
At the beginning of each session our coach will evaluate the skill levels of all registered participants. If the coach determines that a participant is better suited for another group, he will advise that person.
We want this process to be as fair and respectful as possible for everyone. Accordingly, the participant will be entitled to choose one of the following options:
a) Switch to the proposed replacement group immediately if a spot is available; or
b) Withdraw from the current group with a refund for the remainder of the session.

  • It is the responsibility of the participant to make arrangements for a sub at the appropriate level, including the coverage of the cost for that lesson
  • Organizers may provide a waiting list of participants who may be available to substitute in for a specific lesson. If there is a waiting list, the participant should make a reasonable attempt to contact this list first.

2. What if the weather or other unforeseen event cancels a lesson for the whole group?

Cancelled lessons may be rescheduled. Participants will be reimbursed if no replacement date can be found.

3. Do all participants have to be a member of STC?

No, but STC members will receive priority. If you are not a member and are interested, please contact activities-director@saanichtennisclub.org to be placed on a waiting list. Interested non-members will be contacted if a spot is available 1 week prior to the session start.

4. How can I become a spare for people who cannot make it to all of their sessions?

Please email activities-director@saanichtennisclub.org with your name and your availability to participate as a spare.

5. Do you offer beginner lessons?

Not at the moment. Due to our club’s membership demographics, we have not historically had enough interest to run an adult beginner group lesson. If you are a beginner who is interested in lessons, please contact activities-director@saanichtennisclub.org to indicate your interest so that we can better serve our membership!
